ILLNESS GUIDELINES
Please keep your child home from school for the following signs of illness:
Fever of 100.4 or greater
Active vomiting and/or diarrhea (more than 1 episode in a 24-hour period)
Elevated temperature (99.0-100.3) and any combination of the following symptoms:
body aches/chills/fatigue
severe cough/congestion/sore throat
severe headache
stomach ache/nausea
Any symptoms that are severe enough that your child cannot have a successful day of learning
Any suspected contagious conditions (strep throat, pink eye, undiagnosed rashes etc.)
If any of the above conditions are found at school, your child will be sent home and must be picked up as soon as possible by a parent/guardian or an adult from the approved pick up list. If a high school student who drives to school is sent home ill, there must be parent permission given to the student’s campus nurse or the attendance/front desk attendant prior to leaving the campus.
Returning to school after illness:
Students with a fever (100.4 or greater) must be fever-free (without the use of fever reducing medicine) for a period of 24 hours before being allowed to return to school.
Students with active vomiting and/or diarrhea must be free of those symptoms for a period of 24 hours before being allowed to return to school.
Students with suspected contagious conditions (including but not limited to: strep throat, pink eye, undiagnosed rashes, etc.) may require a written excuse from the doctor before being allowed to return to school.
Please report student absences to southattendance@gcak12.org for all South campus absences or northattendance@gcak12.org for all North campus absences and bring in or email any doctor’s notes to the nurse on your child’s campus.
Medical Documents:
Meet our nurses!
My career as a registered nurse began in 2015, and the majority of my previous nursing experience comes from working in a pediatric office. My husband is a student pastor, so I also have many years of experience caring for teenagers. We are thrilled to have our children be able to attend GCA for their education both academically and spiritually. What a blessing it is to utilize my skills as a nurse in a Christian environment to care for the medical needs of the GCA students!
My nursing career began in 2019 as a pediatric nurse at Riley Hospital for Children. In October 2021, I joined the GCA Staff as an additional nurse to meet the needs of our growing student population. I love school nursing because it allows me to pursue two of my passions: provide medical care for children and provide support to students with medical needs, in addition to the family of those students, via interventions, staff education, and procuring resources to ensure academic success. My daughter graduated from GCA in 2024, so I count it a privilege to have a role in promoting the health and wellbeing of GCA students!
